This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to carmustine, or if you are pregnant.How to Use This Medicine:
Implant
- This medicine comes in the form of a small, round wafer. Your doctor will place the wafer in your brain during surgery. The wafer will dissolve and slowly release the medicine.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
Warnings While Using This Medicine:
- This medicine may cause birth defects if either partner is using it during conception or pregnancy. Tell your doctor right away if you or your partner becomes pregnant. Use an effective form of birth control for 6 months after you receive the implant. Male patients with female partners should use an effective form of birth control for 3 months after implantation with this medicine.
- Do not breastfeed following implantation with this medicine and for at least 7 days after implantation.
- Tell your doctor if you have seizures.
- This medicine may cause the following problems:
- Seizures
- Increased pressure in your head
- Slow wound healing
- Meningitis (swelling of the brain)
- Talk with your doctor before receiving this medicine if you plan to have children. Some men who received this medicine became infertile (unable to have children).
- Medicines used to treat cancer are very strong and can have many side effects. Before receiving this medicine, make sure you understand all the risks and benefits. It is important for you to work closely with your doctor during your treatment.
- Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.
Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- High fever, confusion, drowsiness, stiff neck or back
- Seizures
- Severe headache, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, or vision changes
- Slow wound healing, bleeding of your surgical incision
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Back pain
- Constipation, stomach pain
- Lack or loss of strength
If you notice other side effects that you think are caused by this medicine, tell your doctor
