You should not receive this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to Japanese encephalitis virus vaccine, thimerosal, or to mouse proteins.How to Use This Medicine:
Injectable
- Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given. This medicine is given as a shot under your skin.
- A nurse or other health provider will give you this medicine.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Do not drink alcohol while you are using this medicine. Do not drink large amounts of alcohol within 2 days of the vaccine shot.
Warnings While Using This Medicine:
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding, or if you have any allergies.
- Avoid traveling to foreign countries within 10 days of the vaccine shot.
- To prevent mosquito bites, avoid outdoor activities and use insect repellents when you are outdoors during hot weather.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you have received any vaccine shot in the last 7 days.
Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
- Blurred vision.
- Decrease in how much or how often you urinate.
- Fever or chills.
- Light-headedness or fainting.
- Nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain.
- Weakness of your arms or legs.
- Yellowing of your skin or the white of your eyes.
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Dizziness or headache.
- Muscle pain.
- Pain, swelling, redness, or itching at the site where the vaccine shot was given.
- Runny or stuffy nose.
- Swelling of your joints.
