This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to molnupiravir.How to Use This Medicine:
Capsule
- Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed. Take this medicine within 5 days of the onset of COVID-19 symptoms.
- Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, open, or chew it.
- You may also give the medicine through a nasogastric tube or orogastric tube:
- You may open the capsule in a container with a lid and mix with 40 mL of water.
- Put the lid back and shake the mixture for 3 minutes. The contents may not dissolve completely.
- Flush the tube with 5 mL of water. Using a syringe, draw the mixture from the container and give it right away. Do not keep the mixture for later use.
- Add 10 mL of water into the container. Repeat this step until no capsule contents are left in the container or syringe. Flush the tube with 5 mL of water 2 times after giving the mixture.
- This medicine comes with a Fact Sheet for Patients and Caregivers. Read and follow the information in the Fact Sheet carefully. Ask your doctor if you have any questions.
- Missed dose: If it is within 10 hours of the time it is usually taken, take it as soon as possible, and then go back to your regular schedule. If it is more than 10 hours, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
- Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
Drugs and Foods to Avoid:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
Warnings While Using This Medicine:
- Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. If you are a woman who can get pregnant, your doctor may do tests to make sure you are not pregnant before starting this medicine. Use an effective form of birth control during treatment and for at least 4 days after the last dose. Male patients with female partners should use an effective form of birth control during treatment and for at least 3 months after the last dose. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant.
- Do not breastfeed during treatment and for at least 4 days after the last dose.
- Your doctor will check your progress and the effects of this medicine at regular visits. Keep all appointments.
- Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.
Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing
If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
- Dizziness, headache
