Diuretics - potassium-sparing diuretics

Potassium-sparing diuretics include:

  • Amiloride (Midamor)
  • Spironolactone (Aldactone)
  • Triamterene (Dyrenium)

Potassium-sparing diuretics and thiazide diuretics may sometimes be used together. Diuretic combinations include:

  • Hydrocholorothiazide/triamterene (Maxzide, Dyazide)
  • Hydrochlorothiazide/ spironolactone (Aldactazide)
  • Amiloride/ hydrochlorothiazide (Moduretic)

Depletions from potassium-sparing diuretics are discussed in this article. If you are taking any of these combinations, you may also want to consult the thiazide diuretics depletion article.

Taking triamterene may deplete vitamin B9.

  • Anemia
  • Heart disease
  • Birth defects

Symptoms may include:

  • Weakness
  • Mouth sores

  • Depression
  • Poor growth
