Cancer Diagnostics: Accurately Detecting Cancers Early
Early Cancer Detection Leads to Early Treatment
The advanced diagnostic technology in use at Lima Memorial enables oncologists to detect many types of cancers earlier and more accurately. The Lima Memorial Cancer Program is equipped with some of the most current and advanced cancer screening equipment and procedures available today, that can help find extremely small tumors and detect cancerous cells much earlier. This can lead to earlier treatment, increasing the likelihood of positive outcomes.
Types of Cancer Diagnostics
We use different screening procedures to diagnose specific types of cancer. Some of these include:
- MRI
- PET/CT
- Biopsy
- Mammography
- superDimension™ Navigation System & Endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) Technology
The Cancer Program works closely with Lima Memorial Women's Health Center to encourage regular mammograms for women at risk for breast cancer. Lima Memorial has received a grant from the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help us provide free mammograms to uninsured or underinsured women and men in our community.
Advancing Cancer Diagnostic Technologies
Lima Memorial was the first health system in the nation to install the CADx Second Look System, a “second set of eyes”, to help radiologists study mammograms to detect possible breast cancers as early as possible.
New PET/CT scanning technology has also become an invaluable tool in cancer diagnostics. Lima Memorial was also the first health system to acquire Second Look, which simultaneously combines a PET scan with a CT scan to provide a 3D “map” of the precise location, nature and extent of a cancerous tumor.
