Certified Nurse-Midwives Provide Women’s Healthcare Services from Adolescence through Menopause
Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) provide an array of women’s healthcare services. While midwives are probably best known for their care of women during pregnancy and childbirth, midwives also provide personalized, expert care throughout a woman’s lifespan from adolescence through menopause.
Midwives focus on what is most important to each woman’s unique situation and values. They offer specialized healthcare intended to foster a holistic approach to health and well-being by providing choices that help their patients make informed decisions. Midwives are dedicated to providing women with the personalized healthcare experience they deserve.
What Do Midwives Do?
The midwives at Lima Memorial offer a wide variety of services to aid in overall women’s health issues. Our services include:
- General women’s healthcare services
- Well-woman care, including annual gynecologic exams
- Family planning needs
- Treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STDs and STIs)
- Care during teenage years
- Care for pregnancy, labor and birth
- Menopause care and support
- Urinary incontinence
- Pelvic pain issues
- Education on basic nutrition, pregnancy and parenting, general reproductive health and disease prevention
Midwife vs OB-GYN: What’s the Difference?
At Lima Memorial Alliance OB-GYN, our physicians and Certified Nurse Midwives collaborate to provide women with personalized care plans. The team provides labor and birth services and surgical (laparoscopic / robotic) services at Lima Memorial Hospital.
Our physicians are board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology. They offer a wide range of services including:
- annual gynecologic exams
- breast exam
- pap test and abnormal pap test treatment including colposcopy
- sexually transmitted disease treatment
- contraceptive counseling
- preconception counseling
- prenatal care
- labor and birth including vaginal delivery and cesarean delivery
- endometriosis treatment
- menopause treatment
- tubal ligation
Our Certified Nurse Midwives are registered nurses that have graduated from an accredited nurse midwifery education program and have passed a national board certification. CNMs in Ohio are considered Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN). Midwifery care encompasses a full range of primary care services for women throughout their lifespan. Our midwives offer annual gynecologic exams, family planning, preconception care during pregnancy and childbirth, postpartum care, breastfeeding, menopausal support and more. We also offer referral and physician consultation / collaboration when necessary.
