The fight against breast cancer starts here
Early diagnosis, detection and treatment of breast cancer take expert medical judgment and experience. Few medical professionals are more experienced than the nationally recognized team at Lima Memorial Women’s Health Center and the Lima Memorial Wapakoneta Medical Center. As an American College of Radiology (ACR) Designated Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center, the Women’s Health Center offers the full spectrum of mammogram services. In addition to digital mammograms, patients also have the option to have a 3D mammogram performed.
A Team Approach to Comprehensive Breast Cancer Detection, Diagnosis and Treatment
The Women’s Health Center at Lima Memorial Medical Park is a leader in breast cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment. Our multidisciplinary team—often including board-certified medical and radiation oncologists, radiologists, surgeons, plastic surgeons, mammographers, patient navigators and highly trained nurses—consult with each other on the treatment of every patient diagnosed with breast cancer. In addition, all patients newly diagnosed with breast cancer are connected with a patient navigator to guide them through their treatment journey.
The center is known for its expertise in breast cancer diagnosis. At the Women’s Health Center, mammogram screenings are evaluated twice: once by a radiologist physician and again with innovative computer-aided detection (CAD) technology. In addition, the Women's Health Center offers 3D mammography. This technology finds up to 40% more invasive breast cancers and is able to detect cancers smaller in size at an earlier stage.
Breast Cancer and Osteoporosis Screenings
Lima Memorial Women’s Health Center is also a leader in breast cancer prevention, both in the community and nationwide. We were an active participant in the National Cancer Institute's STAR trials, one of the largest breast cancer prevention studies ever conducted. Women throughout the community have access to breast health education, consultations and support groups provided by the center.
The Women's Health Center works closely with the Cancer Institute to encourage regular mammograms for women at risk for breast cancer. In addition, we offer osteoporosis and bone health screening services to uninsured or underinsured women and men in our community to allow for earlier diagnosis and treatment.
