Family's Donation Brings Comfort to Grieving Parents
More than 23,000 parents in the United States will be faced with the death of an infant. Having experienced a loss no parent should, Kaila Flory wanted to do something that would impact other grieving parents. On Wednesday, June 7, Flory and her family will be making a donation to the Lima Memorial Family Birth Center of a Cuddle Cot™.
A Cuddle Cot™ is a portable cooling unit that allows a stillborn baby to remain with the family, thereby providing the family the time they need to capture very important memories. Dealing with the death of a baby is an incredibly difficult event for parents and bereaved parents should be given the option of spending time with their baby. The Cuddle Cot™ provides the family just that.
After experiencing the loss of her newborn son, Beau, in August 2015, Flory has made it one of her priorities to raise money for Cuddle Cots™ so parents are granted more time with their child, something that is almost impossible to give without a cooling system.
"Sadly we do see stillbirths happen from time to time. It is a really sad time for parents. They need to have an opportunity to spend time with their babies to grieve," stated Joan McBride, Director of LMHS Family Birth Center. "The more memories that we can help create from the time they have with their babies, the better it is for the family."
