October is recognized as Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time to honor the lives of little lives gone too soon while raising awareness about the importance of safe sleep practices for babies. In recognition of this month and families experiencing the unimaginable loss of a child, Lacey Hefner, a beloved associate at Lima Memorial Health System, will donate special sleep sacks to the Lima Memorial Family Birth Center.

Lacey's commitment to supporting families affected by infant loss is a cause close to her heart. In 2016, her infant daughter, Rylee, passed away from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) at just three months and eleven days old. Since that heartbreaking time, Lacey has actively contributed to the hospital and community with donations of toys, blankets and other comfort items for families in need.

This year, Lacey’s donation of more than 60 safe sleep sacks not only promotes essential safe sleep practices, but also serves as a heartfelt tribute to Rylee. Lacey hopes that her efforts will help prevent future tragedies related to SIDS.

“Every day, I carry my daughter Rylee's memory with me. Donating these sleep sacks is not only a way for us to honor her life, but to raise awareness about safe sleep practices,” shared Lacey Hefner, BSN RN, Clinical Informatics, Lima Memorial Health System. “My hope is that by bringing awareness and providing these resources, we can prevent other families from experiencing loss due to SIDS or an unsafe sleep environment.”

For those looking to further support families affected by pregnancy and infant loss, Lima Memorial Health System invites you to learn more about the Lima Memorial Foundation’s Ryan & Robin Elephant Fund. Gifts designated to support this fund ensure every life, no matter how short, is recognized and acknowledged.
