Lima Memorial Health Systems’ Laboratories Receive Reaccreditation from College of American Pathologists

The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded reaccreditation to four of Lima Memorials’ laboratories, based on results of CAP’s recent on-site inspection. The facility’s medical director, Rafael Nivar, MD, was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided.
“This honor is truly a team effort. I want to thank all the staff in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine here at Lima Memorial Health System, for their commitment and attentiveness in all they do to assure all our patients receive the quality of care they deserve in a safe environment,” said Dr. Nivar.
“I could not be more proud of my team who works day in and day out to make sure all our laboratories are in compliance and our patients needs are met. At Lima Memorial we take pride in a job well done, and my team has put forth the effort to making sure we meet the high standards set,” stated Burlin Sherrick, Director of Laboratory Services at Lima Memorial.
The CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is seen as being equal to or more rigorous than the government’s own inspection program. Designed to warrant the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, examiners observe the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. These examiners also inspect laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program & record and overall management.
In addition, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) conducted its own quality review on CAP’s inspection process by re-inspecting the Lima Memorial Laboratory at Kindred Hospital. Lima Memorial subsequently received a validation accreditation from CMS, once again demonstrating the team’s commitment to excellence.
