Care Team to Reunite with Patients and Their Families
Lima Memorial Health System is hosting a Heart Recovery Reunion on Monday, October 1, 2018, to celebrate local heart attack survivors who benefitted from great care and revolutionary technology. These patients will be reunited with the care team who saved their lives when the odds were stacked against them.
Unresponsive to resuscitation, these patients had a lifesaving Impella heart pump implanted by Dr. Zane WM Dean, Interventional Cardiologist with the Lima Memorial Heart and Vascular Institute. “This revolutionary technology is temporarily implanted in a patient’s heart to independently pump up to 2.5 liters of blood per minute for the patient,” states Dr. Dean. The Impella heart pump is designed to temporarily support the pumping function of the heart. This allows the heart to rest and potentially recover.
“Through the amazing collaboration of our cardiac team, coupled with this innovative heart pump, we are able to save lives when traditional measures fail,” states Dr. Dean. Technology like the Impella heart pump allows Lima Memorial to provide advanced care options to patients throughout the region who suffer from heart failure or a heart attack complicated by cardiogenic shock.
