Lima Memorial Partners with Eon for AI-Powered Early Cancer Detection Program

Lima Memorial Health System has joined forces with Eon, a leading healthtech company dedicated to revolutionizing the way incidental findings are gathered and followed up on for treatment. This collaboration will help Lima Memorial use the latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to comprehensively review all completed CT scans, X-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs and pathology reports within its facilities for potential cancerous lung nodules.
Eon’s capabilities include utilizing computational linguistics, a discipline of AI, to extract abnormal findings and clinically relevant information from radiology reports. For example, Eon’s technology will enable Lima Memorial to capture lung nodules with 98% accuracy and discover more patients at risk for the potentially life-threatening disease.
Lung cancer is the second most common cancer in both men and women. Most often, lung cancer is diagnosed when symptoms are present. At this point, the cancer is at an advanced stage with a five-year survival rate of only 15 percent or less. Each year, more people die from lung cancer than of colon, breast and prostate cancers combined. Finding lung cancer early dramatically improves survival rates.
