Lima Memorial Health System and Bath Township Fire Department will join together to host the Listen to Your Heart Program at Bath Elementary School on Thursday, October 26. The program offers a fun and interactive way of teaching elementary students about heart health and living a heart-healthy lifestyle.
“Our team is always excited to share knowledge about heart-healthy living,” says Hope Bish, Cardiovascular Clinical Improvement and Quality Resource Management. “This is important health information they will carry into their adult lives.”
Lima Memorial’s Listen to Your Heart Program will show students grades 1 - 4 the benefits of being heart healthy through teaching and a variety of interactive stations, including a hands-only CPR demonstration, heart-healthy nutrition relay station and a “When to Call 9-1-1” game.
“We are thrilled to partner with Lima Memorial to help teach young people about not only living a heart-healthy lifestyle, but also what to do in the event of a cardiac emergency,” shares Joseph Kitchen, Chief of Bath Township Fire Department. “We are proud of our partnership with LMHS.”
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States. Every year, one in four deaths are caused by heart disease. The good news is heart disease can often be prevented when people make healthy choices and take steps to manage their health conditions. Educating children at a very young age is key to instilling heart-healthy habits that will promote good health and well-being into their adulthood.
