Lima Memorial has received the American Heart Association’s Gold Plus Get With The Guidelines®- Stroke Quality Achievement Award for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines.
Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death and a leading cause of adult disability in the U.S. On average, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke every 40 seconds, and nearly 795,000 people suffer a stroke each year, with 610,000 being new or first strokes. Early stroke detection and treatment are key to improving survival, minimizing disability and speeding up recovery time.
Along with the Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, Lima Memorial also received the American Heart Association’s Target: Stroke Elite Honor Roll and the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Award. The Stroke Elite Honor Roll recognition confirms that the time between a patient’s arrival at Lima Memorial and receiving stroke blood clot-busting medication (altephase) is reduced. The Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll Award ensures patients with type 2 diabetes receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized with cardiovascular disease or stroke.
“The Lima Memorial team is honored to receive these awards from the American Heart Association,” says Dr. Walter Elrod, Stroke Medical Director at Lima Memorial. “These recognitions demonstrate our team’s dedication to quick action and providing the most-up-to-date care to patients during a stroke.”
