Specialized Pediatric Therapy Equipment Now Available at Lima Memorial

The Lima Memorial Health System Pediatric Therapy department proudly offers new, specialized pediatric therapy equipment that allows for safety and improved confidence in balance training and therapeutic exercise for strengthening, as well as more effective communication between patients, their families and caregivers.
The new equipment (unique to the Lima region) was funded through a generous $35,000 grant given by the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptocos Society, the philanthropic arm of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. The new equipment includes a universal exercise unit, also known as spider cage technology, which helps in therapies for children facing neurological disorders such as muscular dystrophy and cerebral palsy. The grant also funded a Tobii Dynovax Communication Device to help with communication during speech therapy.
“We are already seeing patients benefit tremendously from this generous donation,” says Roberta Keenan, Clinical Manager of Occupational and Speech Therapy at Lima Memorial Health System. “This has truly brought our care to a new level for patients and their families, and it has made a difference for those needing specialized care close to home.”
Additional equipment purchased with the grant includes a new jungle gym play set with steps designed for soft climbing and a feeding high chair for patients experiencing feeding difficulties and whom require special positioning.
“We are very excited to offer our patients access to this equipment locally,” says Tony Rampulla, Physical Therapy Manager at Lima Memorial Health System. “Families needing this specialized care for their child can now complete therapy right here in their own community.”
